چکیده

Abstract: The Head-of-Line (HoL) blocking problem, which occurs in input-buffered service systems, degrades their performance, especially in “hot-spot” traffic conditions. In this paper, we present a variation of the design of FIFO queues, called “Retreat FIFOs” or “FIFOs with Retreat” (RFIFOs), which significantly improves the performance of plain FIFOs, with respect to the HoL blocking problem. Each FIFO element is tagged with two status bits. When the HoL element is blocked, a “retreat” process is initiated, i.e., the blocked packet is continuously swapped with its next-in-line packet, until the end of the FIFO is reached. Simulation results indicate that the performance of the RFIFO is significantly improved compared to plain FIFOs, especially for hotspot traffic.

Design of a Low-Latency Router Based on Virtual Output Queuing and Bypass Channels for Wireless Network-on-Chip

Wireless network-on-chip (WiNoC) is considered as a novel approach for designing future multi-core systems. In WiNoCs, wireless routers (WRs) utilize high-bandwidth wireless links to reduce the transmission delay between the long distance nodes. When the network traffic loads increase, a large number of packets will be sent into the wired and wireless links and can...

Virtual Lines, a Deadlock-Free and Real-Time Routing Mechanism for ATM Networks

In this paper2 we present a routing mechanism and buffer allocation mechanism for an ATM switching fabric. Since the fabric will be used to transfer multimedia traffic it should provide a guaranteed throughput and a bounded latency. We focus on the design of a suitable routing mechanism that is capable to fulfil these requirements and is free of deadlocks. We will describe two basic concepts th...

A population-based algorithm for the railroad blocking problem

Railroad blocking problem (RBP) is one of the problems that need an important decision in freight railroads. The objective of solving this problem is to minimize the costs of delivering all commodities by deciding which inter-terminal blocks to build and by specifying the assignment of commodities to these blocks, while observing limits on the number and cumulative volume of the blocks assemble...

An Iterated Greedy Algorithm for Solving the Blocking Flow Shop Scheduling Problem with Total Flow Time Criteria

In this paper, we propose an iterated greedy algorithm for solving the blocking flow shop scheduling problem with total flow time minimization objective. The steps of this algorithm are designed very efficient. For generating an initial solution, we develop an efficient constructive heuristic by modifying the best known NEH algorithm. Effectiveness of the proposed iterated greedy algorithm is t...

A three-stage assembly flow shop scheduling problem with blocking and sequence-dependent set up times

This paper considers a three-stage assembly flowshop scheduling problem with sequence-dependent setup < /div> times at the first stage and blocking times between each stage in such a way that the weighted mean completion time and makespan are minimized. Obtaining an optimal solution for this type of complex, large-sized problem in reasonable computational time using traditiona...
